The requested budget includes $90.9 billion for the United States Department of Transportation, which was soundly endorsed by DOT Secretary Anthony Foxx, whom said that the requested funds will lay a new foundation for economic growth and competitiveness by addressing the nation’s growing infrastructure deficit, making investments into the national infrastructure network, and increasing safety and efficiency.

A majority (57%) of surveyed Chief Procurement Officers (CPOs) said short-term cost reduction is a higher priority than long-term growth in 2014, according to a new survey by Consero Group, an international leader in creating high-level, invitation-only events for senior executives.
Even with some slippage for key metrics, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) reported today the non-manufacturing activity in February remained on a growth path for the 49th consecutive month in its February Non-Manufacturing ISM Report on Business.

Fourth quarter revenue for CEVA–at $2.149 billion-dropped 9.4 percent annually, while adjusted EBITDA jumped up 57.1 percent to $77 million, with the company citing cost reduction actions taken last year contributing to ongoing annual improvements for the latter. For 2013, CEVA revenue fell 8.3 percent year-over-year to $8.517 billion, due to sluggish volumes from its Freight Management group.

The average price fell 0.1 cents to $4.016, marking the first decline since the average price dropped from $3.873 from $3.886 the week of January 20. Prior to this week, the average price per gallon rose a cumulative 14.4 cents.

Although there have been recent signs of new hires in the logistcs sector, managers are being advised to remain cautious when it comes to investing in human capital this year.
More than a third of manufacturing firms in the small and midsized business (SMB) sector expect the economy to strengthen in the coming six months, while nearly half expect it to remain the same, according to the results of the second annual Sage Manufacturing Survey announced by Sage North America.
